Without difficulties fortunately ex-gouvernor of the Meta department in Colombia Alan Jara today was released by the leftist guerrillagroup FARC. Alan Jara had been a hostage for 7,5 years. His face is like a dead man’s face, he appears to have lost lots of weight, but mentally he is (or seems?) as strong as an ox. (more…)

Why is Piedad Córdoba hated so much? Piedad, which means mercy or devotion, is a senator in Colombia. She is a member of the Liberal Party and she is a woman who doesn’t fear to express what she thinks. She is one of the so many Colombians who receive death threats any moment. (more…)

My hope to find more about Che Guevara during my holiday in Argentina is not lost. It appears that he moved away with his parents from Rosario because he suffered from asthma.

She thanked the people’s solidarity and its prayers when she arrived in Buenos Aires. In Quito she had proposed a “multinational front” to get the hostages who are still in the jungle free. Ingrid Betancourt is on tour in Latin America.
So strange that she didn’t start with the only leader in the region who really managed to get some of the hostages free: Venezuela’s president Hugo Chávez. The rest wasn’t able to do more than show its goodwill. It is not at all easy to negotiate with the FARC and stop this war. (more…)
