Interesting news today about Colombia’s senator Piedad Córdoba’s efforts to negotiate with the FARC about the liberation of hostages. She is going to talk with the United States ambassador in Colombia, William Brownfield.
Colombia’s president Álvaro Uribe prohibited Piedad’s and Colombians for Peace’s interference in the liberation of hostages last week.
Usually the United States government is very careful in interfering with or critizing the Colombian government. So this is an interesting development. I hope they really will talk and that it will have effect.
The liberation of the hostages is more important than anyone’s image, be it Colombia’s president Uribe’s or Piedad Córdoba’s.
