Since it is 42 years ago legendary comandante Che Guevara died, media in several countries (Cuba, Argentina and Bolivia, where he was killed, for example) have dedicated articles on him. Like Bolivia’s La Razón, that had a special on him.

Have mercy on Piedad

Why is Piedad Córdoba hated so much? Piedad, which means mercy or devotion, is a senator in Colombia. She is a member of the Liberal Party and she is a woman who doesn’t fear to express what she thinks. She is one of the so many Colombians who receive death threats any moment.

That is the slogan with which the Colombian government tries to convince foreigners that it is worth coming to the country, which has such a bad reputation: war, violence, guerrilla, drugs.

Today I saw Che’s bed, bath, motorbike, books in the museum in the friendly village of Alta Gracia, near to Córdoba in Central Argentina.

My hope to find more about Che Guevara during my holiday in Argentina is not lost. It appears that he moved away with his parents from Rosario because he suffered from asthma.

Che Guevara is absent in Rosario

Without knowing it I travelled to the town where Che Guevara was born, Rosario, in Argentina.  I am still on a holiday there. It is close to the village of Bernardo de Irigoyen, where my friends married a few days ago. The place where Che was born, now is an insurance company and only a small sign on the side walk tells you that it was there. There is also a statue and that is it.

Sewed in Buenos Aires

I was glad to leave turmoily Colombia and travel to Buenos Aires for a holiday and look what happens. I think I made the same mistake as a Colombian friend who was robbed in Amsterdam. He thought that in Holland you didn’t have to be careful. Wrong of course. And I? I trusted in a guy who would help me to find a taxi. He and the driver sewed me. They asked a far too high rate. I was naive and believed their explanation. Colombia is less awful than it seems.

Holiday in Argentina

Tomorrow I will travel for Buenos Aires because my neighbours are going to marry in Argentina. The wedding will be in a small village near the town of Rosario, called Bernardo de Irigoyen.

I am so curious to know how it will be to travel in a different country in Latin America than Colombia. Because these last years  I haven’t had the opportunity to cross Colombia’s borders to go to a neighbour country.
